Achieving Balance…

How many people on their deathbed wish they’d spent more time at the office?

What a question; and so true.  How do we avoid being in this position?  One great way is to achieve a personal and work life balance.  Today we can become overburdened with technology that gives us the ability to work 24/7/365.  You may feel you’ve gained more time; however, all of this connectivity is truly taking away the balance we need in our lives.  A recent article in Forbes Small Business Magazine highlighted a business owner who had enough.  He hired a virtual assistant to answer his calls and respond to his email and gained 8 to 10 hours per week.  This gentleman only responded to essential emails throughout the week and calls at specific times during the day; although then only after they were screened.  The time he saved was used pursue and become proficient in three sports.

The next time you consider responding to that voicemail or email message received via your PDA during your personal time; ask yourself, is it really that critical or can somebody else handle it?
